I’m linking up with Lisa Jo Baker over at Tales of a Gypsy Mama for Five Minute Friday. No overthinking or editing. Just write. For 5 minutes flat.
ROOTS
Go…
The first thing that springs to my mind is the Mini-series from the 70’s. I’m not sure why. I’ve always been fascinated with people who have a very clear people from whom they’ve descended.
It may seem very odd; but, I’m a mutt you see. A little bit English. A bigger bit German. A fair amount Italian. I’ve even been rumored to have 1/16th Cherokee Indian. And so, I don’t feel like I really have “a people”.
And yet, I do. And you do too. It’s a “people” based in the Truth of God’s Word. It’s a grafting in to The Root, no matter which family tree you’re coming from.
“ If some of the branches have been broken off, and you, though a wild olive shoot, have been grafted in among the others and now share in the nourishing sap from the olive root,”
Romans 11:17 (NIV)
That gives me incredible comfort. It makes me feel like I belong. I think on that truth and I am certain that I do belong. To the only one who matters. And I am surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses. And these are my people.
Roots. If I had joined in I would have thought of my hair. Super.
Ha! Believe me, I went there in my head.
I like thinking about being grafted in. Thanks for your words Missy!
And now I am thinking about the miniseries Roots….
Happy weekend to you.
Melanie, Roots – the Miniseries – was monumental in a lot of our lives, wasn’t it? So glad you like the words here.
It is amazing that we are adopted into his family. That thought and redemption are so powerful. I love the comment/conversation too. 🙂
It IS amazing! So glad to be in the family with you, girl!
Very sweet words. I don’t have much extended family and we’re in the process of changing churches after 13 years. For the moment, I feel a little short on family as we come into the holidays. Thanks for the reminder. It’s but a moment.
I can identify in so many ways Jen! I’m glad this served as a comforting reminder.
Just love these Friday blog posts. Thanks for the encouraging words.
Thank you my friend!! So glad they are encouraging.
Missy, thanks for encouraging me on my blog today. I love that God has grafted us into His family. It is the greatest gift to all! To be loved and accepted completely, to have been given an inheritance from our Father. Blessings to you friend! So glad you’re writing here!
Right back atcha Jacqui! So blessed to be grafted with you, too, friend.
I’m so happy you’re a part of my people, too. 🙂
You make me smile Monica.

It’s something work thinking about, isn’t it Corinna? So comforting.
Amen, amen.

“I belong to the One who matters.”! Yes and AMEN! Thank you.
I love belonging to Him. So glad you like it Barbie!
Oh my heart…
“I do belong. To the only one who matters. And I am surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses. And these are my people….”
LOVE that!
(I’m a mutt, too. Although my mom always told me I was a Heinz 57)
My first thought was from Cheaper By the Dozen movie when the one child said he felt like he didn’t belong and Bonnie Hunt (the mom) pulled him close and said “Oh yes you do. You belong. You fit right here” 😉
loved your write, friend. Hugs to you!
So glad you enjoyed it! And now, I’m misty-eyed over that very scene from Cheaper By the Dozen. Perfect feeling for us “Heinz 57’s”. 😉
Thank you for comforting me with your words…to know I have a home in Jesus with people from every tribe and nation…so encouraging 🙂
Oh, Dolly – that I could bring anyone comfort… Thank YOU!
“And yet, I do. And you do too. It’s a “people” based in the Truth of God’s Word. It’s a grafting in to The Root, no matter which family tree you’re coming from.”
