All elf antics aside, one of the most beautiful things my Sweetchildren show me each Christmas season is their belief. Their belief in something they cannot see and do not understand. Some would say it’s child-like, or childish – their belief. Oh Lord, I hope so. You see, we have Sweetfriends who don’t believe. And often, they’ll remind us that our “Belief” is a crutch. It’s for the weak. Again, I say, “Lord, I hope so. May it be true of me!”
Because this, right here? It sums up perfectly, how I hope to be seen by The One we celebrate this season.
For an answer Jesus called over a child, whom he stood in the middle of the room, and said, “I’m telling you, once and for all, that unless you return to square one and start over like children, you’re not even going to get a look at the kingdom, let alone get in. Whoever becomes simple and elemental again, like this child, will rank high in God’s kingdom. What’s more, when you receive the childlike on my account, it’s the same as receiving me.
Matthew 18:3 (The Message)
I’m praying that if you haven’t already, you’ll be given the strength to believe this Christmas. Oh, yes indeedy. I do.
