Rainbows and Unicorns and Allume

My heart took flight throughout my time at the Allume conference, last week. In addition to chasing rainbows across the hotel lobby, I cemented friendships with some women who I knew my heart was connected to long before meeting in person.

I learned that I have a place within the legion of writers out there in the blogosphere. My need to stay up until midnight pouring my heart out until it finally feels right? I learned that’s totally normal.  Sitting on suitcases and praying for them to suddenly zip? Also? Totally normal.

That Five Minute Friday community of writers that bravely hit the timer each week? I met many of them in person.  They. Are. Gorgeous.

That (in)courage group of women that I am so deeply encouraged by?  They are real flesh-and-blood women, with a desire to make each heart feel like they have a home in community.  They. Radiate. Love.

I found My People, y’all.

They are brave and smart and funny and kind.  They care and connect and crave community.

I heard a similar message, meant just for me, throughout each Keynote Speech, Session, and Sitting.

And a couple of very distinct words were emblazoned on my heart.

Confirmation.  Carrying a message wrapped in funny is my gifting.

Creativity. We are art because we were made by An Artist.

Doors. Walking through the ones that are open will bring you one step closer.

Salt. Be it. Make sure you bring it to the table every time.

Second. Playing Second Fiddle can be a thing of beauty.

Unicorns. They are more beautiful in person.

Validation. We are ALL stars – and each one of us in the blogosphere is needed to make the others shine that much more brightly.

This conference provided more encouragement for my heart than I could possibly have hoped for.  I was loved on, prayed over, and pushed ahead by some incredible women.

And I can’t wait to do it all again in 2014!

Yes indeedy.

  1. “A message wrapped in funny is my gifting.” I love that! People are always shocked when they meet me in person and realize I’m kind of funny and not all feelings and crying and serious. LOL. I love those who write funny and it still means something. I wish we had more time. I feel like I had so many beautiful conversations and connections and I wanted to leave margin to meet new people but I also feel like at the end, there were some I wish I had been able to sit down with for longer. You were one of those people. You’ve been such an encouragement to me and I just wanted to let you know how much of a blessing your words have been in my life. Next year?

    • You can count on it, Alia! And, I so know what you mean – I tend to be more serious in person than on paper, so, it all balances out in the end. 🙂

  2. Oh I just loved this so!!! I love that God met you at Allume! That he spoke to you in a wonderful way and cemented your place in His creation!!! You bless friend. Never forget that.

  3. Oh, I love how you encapsulated Allume! It was such an amazing experience, and I can’t wait to go back next year. We’ll hug again, and I’ll admire your adorable cowboy boots, and you can not notice my white senior citizen shoes. 🙂

    • That sounds like an excellent plan. I’ll wear my Senior Citizen Glasses (like I SHOULD have been) next time, too. Just to level the playing field? 😉

  4. Not sure how I missed unicorns? You’d think they would stand out in a hotel. 🙂 It was a treat meeting you. Truth wrapped in funny is truly a gift – one I love opening!

  5. What a beautiful recap, friend! Warms my heart just reading how all of it impacted you so deeply. And, most of all, I love, love, LOVE the confirmation you received. Girl, I can’t thank you & Monica enough for that little snapshot of you two. I’m telling you, it seriously made my day! 2014, I’m counting down too.

  6. I’m so happy you got to go and connect in person. It’s awesome!
I’m also slightly jealous and hoping you’ll dump every single word of everything on us. Ya, I know that’s not gonna happen, but I hope you’ll share more conference posts.

    • If not here, then I’ll definitely be hitting you up with some of the amazing notes I took. How exciting is THAT?!?! You start saving and working up some sponsorship – cuz you’re another one who is coming if I have to come up there and git ya myself! 😉
