Radio Silence

It’s been cricket quiet around here, hasn’t it?  My people and I took a little surprise vacation.

Much needed.

Melting, dripping, hair curling heat and humidity, and all!

So, it’s back to normalcy and routine this week.

And then, I’ll be back to posting at my regularly irregular intervals.

The Kids’ Top 5 Places to Visit

Just for kicks and giggles, I asked those darling children of mine a question last weekend: If they could go anyplace, what would their top five be?

They each delivered answers fairly predictably, with just one or two surprises.

Sweetboy’s top five, in a very particular order, are:

1. Go to Disney World. (Shocker!)

2. Go to Hawaii. (Apparently, Disney has a resort there? So… shocker!)

3. Go to California.  (Disneyland. We have a theme going here, don’t we?  And, because, “I’ve always wanted to go to L.A. – it seems cool!”  What’s that now?!)

4. Go to the Florida Keys.  (I wasn’t expecting that one. Ahab and Nana – that’s on you!)

5. Go and visit Wales. (This is not a surprise. After all, I did once use an accent for love.)

And, Sweetgirl’s top five were:

1. Disney World. (Shocker, again!)

2. Legoland in Florida. (Thank you Lego Movie!)

3. Denmark. (She has a sweet little school friend from there.  This is not surprising.)

4. Go to Hawaii because “It’s so warm in there!” (And, as soon as brother reported that there was a Disney Resort there, too, she wanted to move it up to #1. I told her that all decisions were final. No returns or exchanges.)

5. Go see Rio2 at the movies. (Now that was totally random, as we didn’t really dig the first one. Well played Rio2 P.R. People! Also, I didn’t have the heart to tell her that Rio 2 is not a place. She’s six. Whatever.)

There you have it.  Thrilling, I know.

But wait!

There is something thrilling that I’m working very hard to keep from sharing with them.

As far as the Sweetkids know, we are having our Mouse Reunion in December. They’ve been pining to go back since stepping foot off of Disney property this time, last year. We’ve been talking it up with them for the last 3 months. We’ve even been involving them in choosing a hotel, mapping out new restaurants to try, and which rides to make sure to hit.

What they don’t know is that we’re actually going to be sporting our Mickey Mouse ears really soon!

And, since it’s #1 on both of their lists, I have the feeling that we will have two highly happy children on our hands come the morning we stroll downstairs and announce that we’re going.

Oh, yes indeedy!

I can not tell you how happy this place makes my family. I had my doubts about how “magical” it all really was – until we actually went for the first time a few years ago.  All doubts were eradicated! Each visit to Disney World has been special for this quirky family of mine in so many ways.  Sweetman and I can’t wait!

In the meantime, I’d appreciate prayers for strength to keep my big mouth shut.  I’m ’bout ready to burst! I keep telling myself that I’ve made it this last couple of months – I can make it another couple of weeks, right?

A Little Late, But…

Better later than never, right?  I mean, we can’t ALL have our act together, now can we? I feel it’s my job and duty to lead the Vacation Picture Slackers in their turtle march toward productivity.

Enjoy some of my favorite “scenes” from our vacation and a Word to go with it.  Happy Sunday, friends!

“From the rising of the sun to the place where it sets,
the name of the Lord is to be praised.”

Where To Go On Vacation, Again

The words that I’ve been writing lately have been far more reflective than I ever thought they would be, when I began blogging last year. I’m waiting patiently to see where all of this reflection is going.  Hopefully, somewhere with a glorious bent?

In the meantime, it’s time for a little levity.

What better way to lighten up than to look at… vacation pictures! Aren’t you “so stinkin’ sited!” (as Sweetgirl would say)? You are not required to answer that.

During our April vacation week, we went to Disney World.

It was magical.

There is not a one of us who doesn’t want to return.

And soon.

It makes all of us so incredibly happy to be there.  It really isn’t much more complicated than that.

Watching our children, walk hand in hand – or even better – skip, hand in hand, on their way from here to there? Seeing the absolute joy in their eyes, as they spy their favorite characters or rides? Eating every single meal together – as a family – and hearing them chatter away about all the things that touch their hearts in the course of a day? Dole Whip? I cannot put a value on these things.

And this, from a woman who grew up down there and swore that she would never fall into that mousetrap as a parent.

Ha! The joke’s definitely on me.

Oh, indeed it is.

Without further ado, here ya go:

Has there been a vacation spot that you wish you could return to (or have) again and again?  Share, please!  I’d love to know.

A Wee Bit O’ Packing

Because I am certain that you were all stupefied by my photography skillz in yesterday’s post, I thought to myself, “Self, what do my 7 friends and 8 family members want to see next on my blog?”  And you know what my self told me?  More pictures!  That’s right.  But, before you run screaming get too overly excited, I’ll give you a moment to decide whether you really want to waste 5 minutes reading on.  You do?  Fantastic.  I can count you as one more odd fig in our bunch. God sure does know how to make em’, doesn’t He?

We are leaving on Sunday for our Official Vacation.  Yes.  While The Nana and Captain Ahab are just dee-lightful to visit down in sunny F.L.A., we rent a beach house for a week with my in-laws for our actual “unplug and chillax” vacation.  And so, I will be gone all of next week.  Try to contain your enthusiasm sorrow.  And I will write about it. Oh yes, I will. I may even pop in here once or twice while I’m gone.  Since I’ll be vacationing with just about half of my Sweet Readers, I’ll be curious what the other half of ya’ll are up to.

So, let’s talk packing. I’ve been doing a wee bit of it and I gots to tell ya – I. Are. Tired.  Is anyone else exhausted after packing for a long-ish trip? I seriously feel like I could take a 3 day snooze after all of The Rounding Up.  True story.

Why, yes! That IS a garbage bag housing all of the linens and towels we are taking with us. We know how to keep it klassy.

I might be an odd fig, myself, because I like to lay items out as I think of them in an obvious location and then go back and organize them into the appropriate bags after I’ve piled them up in one location.  Does anyone else do this?  If not, I’m curious. How do you organize (or do you organize) your things for a trip?

I do, indeed, have a stragedy. It may not be a great one

Our bed, however, has paid the price for my “rounding up”.  I’m not quite sure where we’re going to sleep tonight.  Sweetman assures me the bed will cleared off.

Get the pukey bucket; our dressers threw up on the bed!

At the very least, by next week. Yes indeedy.  Next week, for sure.
